Have you ever considered using an online interior design service? This is a great option if you're looking to start fresh in a new home or need some help giving your home an update, especially if you don't have the budget or the time to hire a designer on your own.

Here’s everything you should know about some of the popular online design services and how to choose which will be best for you.

Decorist

How it works:

The process is pretty straightforward—through the Decorist website, you choose the room (or rooms) you wish to have designed. You’ll provide details about your room, your budget and style, then upload photos of the room(s) along with any inspiration pictures you have.

Based off the information you’ve provided; you'll be matched with a designer (or you can choose a specific designer) based on the info you've provided. The designer will provide you with two initial designs for you to give feedback on, then finalize your design based off your feedback.

That final design will include: a complete room design, custom floor plan, shopping list, and instructions for setting everything up. All you have to do is order the products from your shopping list, you can even check out (yes, from multiple retailers) all from one cart. Decorist promises to get you access to the best prices and wholesale items. Projects generally take two to three weeks to completed, however if you want to work with a celebrity designer the process can take a month or two.

Decorist is the best service for you if you want to work with a high-profile designer on a budget.

Pricing:

- $299 per room for the Classic package (includes working with an up-and-coming designer).

- $599 per room for the Elite package, (includes working with a seasoned designer).

- $1,299 per room for the Celebrity package (includes working with a celebrity designer).

These packages only cover the cost of the service and not the furniture and accessories.

Havenly

How it works:

Working with Havenly is simple. You’ll start the process by completing a survey that will ask you questions about your personal style, then you'll upload photos of the room you’d like decorated. You'll then either complete a design brief online or schedule a time to have a complementary chat with the designer to discuss your design preferences and ideas for the space.

After five business days, you'll receive two design concepts for your space, that you'll then rate and provide feedback on for the designer.

Your designer will make revisions and provide you with the final design. Havenly will provide you with a complete virtual shopping cart with all of the items from your design (including alternates) and you’ll choose the items you actually want to buy. Their accounts team will take it from there and finalize ordering and will also set-up up delivery for you. You receive a $50 discount on your first order of $200 or more.

Havenly is the best service for you if you want something affordable no matter how big your project is.

Pricing:

- $19 for a consult for quick design decisions and a design board complete with furniture, decor, and paint recommendations, along with a shopping list.

- $99 for Havenly Mini (best for updating a space or adding finishing touches), includes multiple initial designs, a final design, shopping list, and a one-on-one chat with a designer assigned to you.

- $179 for Havenly Full; best for full-on room makeovers or designing a room from scratch—including all of the above plus a custom floor plan and layout visualizations.

How it works:
You’ll first take pictures and measurements of your space and submit them to Modsy. Then, you'll take Modsy's style quiz and provide them with the info they need about your needs, budget, and any of the furniture you currently have that you'd like to keep. You'll receive two custom design plans of your actual room in 3D. Modsy's 3D renderings are extremely realistic, which makes envisioning how your room will turn out in the end that much easier!

You can work with Modsy's design team or use their 3D style editor, to get your design exactly how you want it, you’ll have unlimited revisions in the design process. When you’re ready, you can purchase everything you need in through them, while earning exclusive discounts.

Room Lift

How it works:

Room Lift is more of a boutique service, started by designer Megan Hersch, who you’ll be working with to create the room of your dreams. You’ll first complete a questionnaire about your style, needs, budget, and will also include photos of your space. From there, you’ll browse through a selection of curated Pinterest boards, and select the two that are closest to your own style. Within three to five days of payment, you'll receive a rough sketch of your floor plan, and you'll fill in the correct measurements of the labeled spaces. About two weeks later, you'll receive a physical Room Lift box, complete with a scaled floor plan, paint chips, fabrics, wallpaper samples, and o two (or three, depending on the package you chose) designs' worth of physical paper cards with product images, prices, and info on where to buy them, along with styling notes.

You can purchase any or all of the products independently from Room Lift's resources page. Room Lift doesn't give you the option to purchase all of the items you want from one shopping cart, but the service does offer discounts.

Room Lift is the best service for you if you prefer tangible samples and not just viewing digitally.

Pricing:

- starting at $695 for one Room Lift box with two different designs.
- starting at $1668 for a Room Lift box with three different designs. Also includes a 20% discount per room if you work on three or more rooms at once.
